Acer Aspire E5-571P-55TL Review 2

This laptop may have a low price tag, but do not for a second doubt its ability to compete with some of the multimedia laptops of higher price range. Acer Aspire E5-571P-55TL is a very reasonably priced touchscreen laptop with a 15.6-inch screen.  But the touchscreen is not the only nice feature of this laptop. The processor included as standard with this machine is superior to all other comparable laptops.

Hardware: 15.6 inch HD Touchscreen, Intel Core i5-4210U, 4 GB DDR3, 500 GB HDD, NO OPTICAL DRIVE

You will rarely find Core i5-4210U processor being featured in a laptop within the budget price range. The i5 421oU is an ultra low dual core processor. It is the successor to the i5-4200U processor of the same series. The best thing about this processor is that it saves a lot of battery life, but in terms of performance, this processor out performs all the standard processors. Forget about the Atom or Celeron processor, the core i5-4210U is a notch above the i3 U processors and even some of the i3M processors. In layman’s term, you can expect a very streamlined and smooth experience from this laptop.

Moreover, this laptop features 4 GB of RAM and 500 GB of HDD. Now if I were you I would upgrade the RAM and perhaps even replace the HDD with SSD to make this laptop on par with some of the best multimedia laptops out there. But that is all up to you. I personally believe the 4 GB RAM does not do the processor much justice and therefore should be upgraded to 6 or 8 GB and not more than that would be unnecessary. The RAM is expandable to 16 GB if you really wanted to.

Note that the Acer Aspire E5-571P-55TL does not include an optical drive. Not sure how necessary this is for you.  You can find everything online, download it and if you want to move your data around, just put it on a flash drive or external hard disk. But the real philosophy behind removing the optical drive is to save the cost as well as the battery life.

Furthermore, this laptop measures at about 1.2 inches in thickness and weighs around 5.5 pounds. Those of you who are familiar with Acer laptops would know that this is not the thinnest laptop of the budget range. Acer has much thinner laptops measuring at 1″ thickness and with a weight of 5 pounds. Unfortunately, those laptops feature the Intel Celeron processor, so don’t provide the same horsepower. Despite the 1.2 inches thickness, this laptop isn’t entirely bad for mobility as it is still within the range of being comfortable to carry around.

Another salient feature of this laptop is of course the Touchsreen. Who doesn’t want a touchscreen these days? and if your PC runs on Windows 8.1, then Touchscreen can be a real enhancement. The Operating System is a 64 bit OS, meaning it can recognize more than 4 GB of RAM.

Further features of Acer Aspire E5-571P-55TL include HDMI port, SD card reader, Webcam, RJ-45, Wifi, Bluetooth, 1x USB 3.0 and 2xUSB 3.0 ports. The laptop comes with a standard one year warranty.

In my opinion I would go for this laptop if I were looking for a good performing Touchscreen laptop at an affordable price. Remember that you can find cheaper Touchscreen laptops, but they do not have a powerful processor. I am into minor editing, photoshop and casual gaming on the Internet; therefore, to me having good performance is a must and this laptop fulfills that requirement. If you find yourself in similar shoes as mine, then consider this a good purchase.

Thanks for the review, but it does contradict itself: early on you state the hardware includes a 500GB SSD, but then later you suggest the possibility of replacing the HDD with an SSD. Can I assume then you were mistaken in listing the hardware as shipping with an SSD?
