Price: around $1,300

Acer has finally entered the fray with the Acer Aspire V Nitro gaming laptop, and they have surely sent shivers down the collective spine of the major brands of gaming laptops.  The Acer NX.MQRAA.001 ; VN7-791G-77JJ commonly known as the Aspire V Nitro, is not just the pinnacle of Acer performance, but offers unprecedented features.

Hardware: 17.3″ FHD IPS, Intel Core i7-4710HQ, 16 GB DDR 3, 1 TB HDD + 256 GB SSD, NVIDIA GTX 860M, Optical Drive

To start of with, this gem of a laptop is one of the thinnest gaming laptops in the market for its price. You will rarely find gaming laptops as slim as this 1″ masterpiece.

The Acer VN7-791G-77JJ has all the great essential features that a gaming laptop should have. It has a powerful processor. The core i7-4710HQ Quad core processor is one of the fastest processors for laptops of this generation. Furthermore, this laptop boasts a whopping 16 GB of DDR 3 RAM. This laptop would have been good enough had it just featured 12 GB. Moreover, not only you get 1 TB of HDD but also 256 GB of SSD.  As you can see, with hardware configuration like this, the Acer NX.MQRAA.001 is one of the most optimized and top valued gaming laptops in the market.

The jewel in the crown is obviously the NVIDIA GTX 860M dedicated graphics card. This graphics card has enough power to handle all of the latest games at high to ultra resolution. The beauty of the graphics is enhanced by the FHD IPS screen. Very rarely will you find the IPS screen being featured in gaming laptop.

So how does this laptop match up to its competition? The closest competitor in price range is the ASUS ROG G751JT-CH71. At a $100 more, the ASUS laptop boasts 0.9″ thickness, which is slightly slimmer than the Acer. Furthermore, it features a more powerful graphic card, the NVIDIA GX 970M 3 GB GDDR5.  On the downside, it does not offer an SSD drive and instead features 1 TB HDD @ 7200 RPM. So this is a very close comparison, but the Acer leaves the rest well behind.

In my opinion, the Acer NX.MQRAA.001 beats Alienware 17 in all respects. Take Alienware 17 ALW17-5314sLV, this laptop is $300 more expensive, has a much thicker profile, has half the RAM, and does not include an SSD drive. There are many other gaming laptop brands in the market that you can compare, but the Acer laptop will most certain stand out in terms of value.

However, if I were you, and if I had the budget of $1,500, I would definitely choose between ASUS, the ROG and this Acer laptop. They are sleekest and best valued gaming laptops in the market. For those who prefer ostentatious laptops that are big and loud in design, might find the Acer laptop lacking. However, those who prefer subtle design and hidden talent will appreciate what it offers. This superb laptop is truly worthy of the status of gaming machine, and you will be able to run the latest and greatest games with no trouble at all.  Mind you it does not come cheap, but you could say that it represents great value for  money in comparison with the other brands of gaming machines, perhaps it is just not recognized alongside the big players, well not yet anyway!

Further features of Acer VN7-791G-77J include 2 x USB 2.0 port, 2 x USB 3.0 port, optical drive, HDMI port, Bluetooth, Wifi, Webcam and Ethernet.

In conclusion, this Acer V Nitro is a great gaming laptop with one of the best value for money in the market. For those who say this laptop is over priced should maybe look in the ‘multimedia’ range of laptops. $1500 or above is quite normal for gaming laptops. For a laptop as thin as this one, packed with superior hardware and features, then this machine is great value for money.
