Dell Inspiron Review

Price: around $430

You may not have previously seen a laptop featuring an AMD processor.  People who overlook AMD systems might be missing out on these excellent value laptops.  Take this laptop, Dell Inspiron i5545-2500sLV as an example. Now this laptop has a fairly powerful processor and features more than standard RAM and HDD capacity, all the while maintaining a budget price range.

Hardware: 15.6″ HD, AMD A10-7300 APU, 8 GB DDR 3, 1 TB HDD, No Optical Drive

If you are not aware of the AMD systems, basically the processors are not referred to as CPU.  Instead they are known as advanced processing units or APU.  The APU featured in this laptop is the AMD A10-7300. In terms of comparison with the Intel processor, it is almost as good in performance as the Core i3-4010U processor. Now this processor has the power to perform in tougher environments than just your daily essential tasks. It has the power to handle quite demanding tasks such as photo-editing and even composing video. Although you won’t be able to carry out these tasks at a professional level, the average designer or editor will find this processor to be more than adequate.

But that is not why AMD systems are so different, after all they are called APUs for a reason. That reason has a lot to do with the graphics card. Unlike the Intel processor that offer weak Intel HD integrated graphics, the AMD processor features an integrated graphics card that is similar in performance to a dedicated NVIDIA GT 720M. Now obviously, you cant expect to play games at high performance, but the ability to handle the latest games at all makes this laptop a significantly better bargain than its Intel counterparts.

Another great hardware feature of Dell Inspiron i5545-2500sLV  is the amount of RAM and HDD capacity that you get with it. Normally budget laptops feature 4 GB of RAM and 500 GB of HDD, In fact, most of the high end multimedia laptops also only manage to offer 8 GB and 1TB HDD. To have the same amount in this laptop and at this price is quite an attractive bargain.

Wait, that is not the end of the story with this laptop. Dell Inspiron i5545-2500sLV has one of the slimmest form factors in the market. At 0.90″ thickness, this laptop is among the thinnest in the budget laptop category. It is even thinner than most high end multimedia laptops.

And there is even more. How often do you come across budget laptops that offer backlit keyboards? The answer would be never. This laptop challenges that norm and sets a high bar for other brands to compete by featuring a verey udeful backlit keyboard.

Further features of this notebook include, 1 x USB 2.0, 2x USB 3.0, SD card reader, HDMI, Wifi, Bluetooth and webcam. It does not offer an Optical Drive.

All in all. Dell Inspiron i5545-2500sLV  is the complete package, offering some exclusive features for a budget laptop. I have been in this market for a long time, and I have never seen such a powerful budget laptop. The only drawback of this laptop is the 3-cell battery, which should at best give you 3.5-4 hrs battery. However, I would still recommend this laptop for all people because its pros greatly outweigh the cons.

Note: This is not a Touchscreen Laptop
