Toshiba Satellite C75D

Price: around $440

If you seek a 17.3″ large screened laptop at a budget range, then this Toshiba Satellite C75D-B7304 is a machine you should seriously consider. It features an AMD system that is designed for essential tasks as well as low level editing work.

Hardware: 17.3″ HD+, AMD Quad Core A6-6310, 4 GB DDR3, 1 TB HDD, Windows 8.1, Optical Drive

This laptop is not a very portable machine. In fact 17.3″ laptops are not really made for traveling. It has a significantly thick body measuring at 1.30″ and weighs in at 5.9 pounds which is not too bad for a laptop of this size. The rule of thumb is that if you want portability at a budget range, then go for 15.6″ or 14″ laptops. However, if it is performance and visual comfort that you seek than go for 17.3″.

One of the biggest benefits of a 17.3″ laptop is that it offers a screen with 1600×900 resolution. 15.6″ or 14″ laptops of the same price offer only HD (1366×768). We all know the benefits of a large resolution. The larger the resolution, the more real estate you get on the screen to work on. This is essential for multitasking.

Another aspect that sets Toshiba Satellite C75D-B7304 apart from the 15.6″ counterpart is the large 1 TB HDD. This is because, 15.6″ or 14″ budget laptops have a standard of 500 GB HDD. They would rarely go beyond 500GB and at max can offer 750 GB.

The 4 GB RAM at this price is also quite normal. Therefore there is nothing new about that aspect. I would recommend upgrading the RAM if you want to perform minor editing or video production tasks seamlessly.

The only other 17.3″ budget laptop that comes close to the value this laptop offers is also from Toshiba i.e Toshiba Satellite C75D-B7300. At almost $80 higher price tag, the C75-B7300 offers a much more powerful processor and 2 GB extra RAM. The downside is that it only offers 750 GB HDD. In my opinion, both of these laptops are a good bargain, and it is hard to go past Toshiba.

If you are seeking to purchase a laptop for mere regular tasks such as watching movies, surfing on the internet, or word processing then I would suggest you go for this Toshiba Satellite C75D-B7304. On the other hand, if you want a bit higher performance for a smoother work experience on software and programs, then I would recommend the C75D-B7300.

Other features of this laptop include an optical drive, HD webcam, mic, Wifi, VGA, 2 x USB 2.0, 1 x USB 3.0, and RJ45 Ethernet.

In conclusion, if you are looking for visual comfort and a fairly powerful laptop for budget range, then Toshiba Satellite C75D-B7304 is a good choice. I do not see why students would opt for a this heavier machine given that they already have a lot to carry. I would not advise students to invest in any 17.3″ budget laptop. I would definitely recommend this to those who are seeking to replace their desktops for home entertainment, small office or for casual work.
