HP Pavilion 15-p100dx Review

HP Pavilion 15-p100dx Review

Price: around $600

What happens when you take a powerful processor, remove all the gimmicky features and slap in a sufficiently large amount of RAM and HDD, all the while maintaining an affordable price? You get a machine called the HP Pavilion 15-p100dx. For just a little more than the basic budget price range, what this laptop offers is simply phenomenal.

Hardware: 15.6 inch HD, Core i7-4510U, 6 GB DDR 3, 750 GB HDD, Optical Drive

Budget laptops at best offer Intel Core i3-4010U processor at 4 GB of RAM and 500 GB of HDD  (This is considering the fact that any laptop below $500 is a budget laptop). Often if you decide to a pay little extra, maybe you can expect a Core i5-4210U, but never would you expect the Core i7-4510 U processor. Ladies and gentlemen, if you are looking for a powerful laptop that is still in the vicinity of the budget category, you must put this laptop on top of your list.

The HP Pavilion 15 p100dx boasts a powerful Intel Core i7-4510U processor. Although this is not the most powerful processor in multimedia laptops, it can just about perform miracles. Jobs such as video production or photo editing can easily be done on this machine. I can safely predict that  professional photographers, or engineers would definitely find this machine suitable.

But that is not the end of the story with this thing of beauty, nay it just the beginning. This laptop offers 750 GB of HDD capacity. This is 50% more than what budget laptops offer. Furthermore it harbors 6 GB of RAM, which again is 50% more than the budget norm. The point is that with this laptop you are getting at least a 50% more performance than an average $500 budget laptop. That is if you are willing to pay just a little more than $500 mark. You are basically getting an entire package, one that can easily replace your desktop in your office.

At 0.90 inches thickness, HP Pavilion 15 p100dx is also one of the thinnest laptops in the category. For those of you who know your laptops would also know that most laptops usually come in at 1.20″ thickness. Therefore, you would be quick to realize that a 0.9″ profile is very good, and even better is the fact that it also includes an optical drive!  Something which some brands have started to opt out of.   This laptop has another feature that beats the norm. It boasts 2 x USB 3.0 port and 1 x USB 2.0 port.  Other features include Wifi, Ethernet, Intel HD graphics 4400, HDMI, SD card reader and a Webcam.

Frankly I cannot find any drawbacks, but if I were to be really picky I would say the HD resolution is not to my taste. FHD suits me much better because I tend to multitask a lot and I need the larger real estate that FHD offers. But hey! I cannot expect to get an FHD at this price range especially with all this hardware.

The HP Pavilion 15 p100dx should most certainly interest those who are trying to get the optimal performance for their dollar. Students and even professionals would find this laptop a great option. There is absolutely no reason why I would not recommend this laptop to any discerning buyer.
