Toshiba Satellite Radius P55W-B5318

Price: $999.00

Wow – now you really can have it all!  Radius is the latest in a range of convertible laptops from Toshiba that come in many sizes. Some such as Toshiba Satellite Radius L15W-B1310 are small in size and performance, whereas others such as this Toshiba Satellite Radius P55W-B5318 offer the best hardware specifications for high end performance.

Hardware: 15.6″ IPS FHD Touchscreen, Core i7-4510U, 256 GB SSD, 12 GB DDR 3, Windows 8.1

The Toshiba Satellite Radius P55W-B5318 is a hinge rotate convertible laptop, meaning the screen rotates 360 degrees to act as a Tablet. The excellent aspect about hinge rotate convertible laptops is their ability to transform into 4 difference shapes i.e laptop, tablet, tent and stand. This versatility in design does have its limitations. The biggest drawback is that when in tablet form, these laptops are quite thick.

Chances are that if you are considering this 15.6″ laptop for purchase, a tablet is not your primary requirement. The fact of the matter is that a 15.6″ laptop can never be as portable as a conventional tablet. If you are seeking portability as prime requirement then perhaps the other smaller model would interest you.

This laptop is basically for those seeking to get an Ultrabook with a hint of multimedia laptop features. As an ultrabook, this laptop is comparable to some of the best in the market. The ability to rotate 360 degree is an added bonus for this Ultrabook. This laptop offers a powerful system with Intel Core i7-4510U processor along with 256 GB of SSD and a whopping 12 GB of DDR 3 RAM. This type of hardware is quite sufficient to perform some professional editing and designing work. Another excellent feature that the Toshiba Satellite Radius P55W-B5318 boasts is the FHD IPS Touchscreen. Touch capability is a must for laptop designed for portability. A touch interface can drastically improve your efficiency in navigation and can save you from a lot of frustration involved with learning Windows 8.1.

Since this notebook is an ultrabook, it is also quite thin measuring at 0.75″. However, the same could not be said about the weight. This laptop unfortunately weighs as much as any multimedia laptop – 4.9 pounds. Further features of Toshiba Satellite Radius P55W-B5318 include HD webcam, Wifi, Bluetooth, Media card reader, 2x USB 3.0 ports, and HDMI port with 4K ultra HD output.

So basically this laptop is in the market to cater to a wide variety of people. People who seek a large laptop that is thin as per the standard of ultrabook. This is a very unique laptop as in it includes the performance of a multimedia laptop, the slimness and sleekness of an ultrabook and the ergonomics of a convertible notebook.

For those of you who seek ultraportable laptops, I would not recommend getting a 15.6″ ultrabook like this. There are slimmer and thinner laptops in the market at the same price that you can check out. Acer S7 series and Asus Zenbooks are the obvious choice for small screen ultrabooks. You can also checkout Toshiba Kirabooks. However, if it is performance and visual comfort that you require, then I would recommend this unique 15.6″ ultrabook in a heart beat.

All in all, Toshiba Satellite Radius P55W-B5318 is an excellent all rounder convertible ultrabook that doubles as a multimedia laptop. It’s large and beautiful screen is comfortable to look at and its slim design is easy to carry around. I highly recommend this laptop to students who have the required budget range and also to corporate environment employees.  You will love it!
